About the Event
The
sweepstakes-winning Lake Travis High School Cavalier Band will
be hosting its annual "Blast-A-Thon" on Friday,
October 24, 2008. This free concert for the community will take place over
three hours, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., in the Upper Track Field at
LTHS. Everyone is invited to come and go as schedules allow.
Attendees will be treated to special performances by the
Cavalier Marching Band, Jazz Band, Color Guard, and Drum Line.
Rumor has it that the event will close with the highly
anticipated and always exciting "march off," beginning with over
150 band members and, through a series of increasingly
difficult commands given by Director Kenneth Vise, eliminating
those who miss a step until the field is down to one "winner."
A silent auction will again be held in conjunction with this event, and donations are appreciated. Underwriters are being sought, and donors are acknowledged on the event posters, program, news articles, and in other media. Food and beverages will be sold, as well as "band fan" merchandise in the Band Store. Funds generated at this event will help pay for transportation, instruments and equipment, and music scores for the year ahead.
The Blast-A-Thon will offer entertainment for all ages. In addition to showcasing the band, younger attendees will enjoy a variety of offerings to interact with the band, including trying out various instruments and marching on the field with the band.
The Cavalier Band students continue to fine tune their 2008 marching program, "Fantastique - the music of Cirque du Soleil." Preparations began three weeks before the start of school, including daily 9-hour rehearsals, working together to build the esprit de corps of a championship band. They have been performing the program at LTHS football games, and are in the process of performing it in a series of competitions in late September and October.
Cavalier Football is not
playing on October 24th. Don't sit at home! Come on
and bring the family out for a great evening of Cavalier Spirit!
